Question about JP Honorifics
Have you ever considered keeping the Japanese honourifics when translating Puyo games?
We haven’t considered keeping them.
Our primary reason for localizing the honorifics into English equivalents stems from the fact that, besides Suzuran, the setting of the Puyo Puyo games is not in Japan. Japanese culture does not feature as a plot necessity in the Puyo games, as the worlds of Puyo and Madou draw from multiple western cultures as well.
Dropping or localizing the honorifics improves audience accessibility, as not everyone is familiar with Japanese honorifics, in the same way that Japanese honorifics are added to English media when translated into Japanese.
