20th Anniversary & Fever 2 Name Poll Results are in!

Thanks for helping us figure out what names to use for our patches! From these results, these are the names we’ll use:

Red Amitie, Dark Sig, Angelic Feli, Onesie Satan, Strange Klug, Unusual Ecolo

Here’s how all the votes break down:

We received a total of 305 responses. All questions were optional in case a respondent didn’t feel strongly about a few questions.

The first question was virtually tied for the first few days, but eventually the second option pulled away by 8 votes. Right from day one, we noticed that the total count number on Tally.so was borked for some reason with 4 ghost votes that didn’t count towards either option. Not sure why this happened, but in downloading the CSV the individual response numbers are correct. So just ignore the ghost votes in the total. 4 votes wouldn’t be enough to sway the results, anyway.

All of the names had clear winners. It appears that as a whole, people prefer the color set to all be swapped to localized, but prefer the original adjectives for Strange Klug and Unusual Ecolo.

It was fun reading these. Some quick responses:

• We use “Dark Prince” as a translation for 闇の貴公子, which is a title Satan refers to himself with often. The other title he uses is 闇の魔王さま, which we’re going to translate as “Overlord of Darkness”. Given that Satan already drops his titles on the regular in addition to calling himself サタンさま (Satan-sama), it doesn’t really make sense to us to switch this or we would lose the chance to use all 3 of his pompous names. The English localization probably swapped his name to avoid offending Christian sensibilities, but we’re just a fan translation here and don’t have to worry about that.
• Red Amitie does not parallel Black Sig in naming scheme. If they were meant to be paralleled, it would probably be White Amitie and not White Feli. The names here refer foremost to their individual character backgrounds: Red Amitie is red because of the power from her hat, while Black Sig has unlocked some sort of deeper power that is unlike his typical blue self. The color names are meant to match as an overall set rather than any two names being closer to each other. That’s not to say that any of the alternate Red Amitie suggestions were bad (many of them sound good, Amitie 2 electric boogaloo notwithstanding), but that trying to match her name against Black Sig shouldn’t be the guiding principle. But anyway, any swap of this type would have to be up to the localization.

Thanks again for voting in our poll! We’re still working on the patch and do not have a release date in mind. It’s probably safe to say that it’ll come out sometime before the end of the year, but don’t hold us to that if life randomly hits us up upside the head.
